Patek Philippe 5002 Sky Moon Tourbillon

Picture

Arguably the most complicated wristwatch ever produced by Patek Philippe, the Sky Moon Tourbillon Platinum Ref 5002P is also the manufacturer’s first double-face wristwatch.
This unique piece uses a mechanical movement that is made up of 686 parts.  Many of the individual parts are microscopically small and each is designed to work perfectly with the whole.  Patek Philippe creates all of its own movements and is consistent in producing outstanding watches, and The Patek Philippe 5002P, is no exception.

The many features of the 5002P Sky Moon Tourbillon Platinum watch are contained in a 42.8 mm platinum case.  The front face includes the perpetual calendar in an opaline white dial embossed with Calatrava cross motif.  The roman numerals are gold applied.

For the perpetual calendar, the month is at the 3, moon phase at the 6, days at the 9 and leap year cycle at the 12.  The crystal is scratch-resistant Sapphire, and is double curved. A slide piece in the front case side activates a tourbillon escapement chime with two cathedral gongs.  It also contains a minute repeater and retrograde date hands.

The case back of the Patek Philippe 5002P Sky Moon Tourbillon Platinum watch is also Sapphire crystal to display the elegant blue celestial chart making up the rear dial. The white hands indicate the sidereal hour and the elliptical sky vault displays the visible celestial sky’s current orientation.

The Patek moon phase lunar cycle is also indicated at the 8 on this splendid rear dial.  This magnificent 5002P Sky Moon Tourbillon is possibly the rarest wristwatch continuously produced in the world today.
